Grading Policy


Course Description:

Students enrolled in 8thgrade ELA will continue to increase and refine their communicationskills.  The course focus includes study of diverse themes in literatureof many genres.  The students will plan, draft and complete writtencompositions on a regular basis and read extensively.

Goals and Expectations:

  • Students are expected to be in their seats and prepared to read silently by the time the tardy bell rings.
  • Students are expected to come to class prepared to discuss the assigned reading.
  • Each student will be expected to participate in class discussion.
  • Students are expected to respect one another, their teacher, and their classroom.
  • Students are expected to do their best ALWAYS!

Required Materials:

1 composition notebook for interactive activities, 1 folder, notebook paper, and
pens (blue or back ink)



Showingup is half the battle.  Attendance is essential in improving academicachievement.  Students must bring in proof for an excused absence.

Make-Up Policy:

Assignmentsshould be turned in during the class period they are due.  It is thepolicy of this campus that no late work will be accepted in a Pre-APclass.  If a student has an excused absence it is the student’sresponsibility to ask for the assignment that was missed.

Grading Policy:

MajorAssignments:  Tests, reports, research papers, projects/presentations,essays............................60%                        

Minor Assignments:  Daily classwork/practices, homework, quizzes, AR, lab work, binder checks...40%    

A minimum of 3 major assignments and 9 minor assignments will be used to determine the final grade.
